This swing festival welcomes
the advent of the monsoon. Swings are hung from
trees and decorated with flowers. Women, colourfully
attired, swing on them and sing songs in celebration.
Teej is the festival for the daughters of the
house. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati
and is the time when married women pray for a
happy and long married life. KajiliTeej at Bundi
is particularly vibrant, with a procession of
the goddess Teej from Sagar through the main bazaars
to Azad Park, which includes colourfully decorated
elephants, camels and performers. The festival
is also dedicated to Goddess Parvati and commemorates
the day when she was united with Lord Shiva after
a penance of a hundred years – making them
a symbol of an ideal marriage. It is believed
that invocation of Parvati’s blessings on
this day results in continued marital bliss.
A unique festival for women, Teej is primarily
celebrated in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, parts
of Uttar pradesh and Bihar. Teej festival is dedicated
to the re-union of Goddess Parvati with Lord Shiva.

Long swings decorated with flowers, colorfully
dressed young girls and women, glittering jewellery,
delicious feasts, tough fasting, religious processions
and songs & dance mark the gaiety of Teej
