On the eve of the republic day
the President of the country addresses the nation.
The following day, Republic Day celebrations are
marked by a lot of parades not only in New Delhi,
the country capital but also in the various states.
In Rajasthan too a lot of celebrations take place.
Many Indians sacrificed their lives not only to
gain independence from foreign yoke but also to
protect that independence. The celebrations begin
remembering the sacrifices made by these valiant
men. Medals are awarded to those from the armed
forces who have displayed their valor in the battlefield
by the state chief minister. In fact the civilians
who have exhibited exemplary courage are also honored.
Every year on 26 January the founding of the independent
Republic is remembered throughout India. In New
Delhi the spectacular celebrations include the march
past of the three armed forces, massive parades
and traditional folk dances, music from all over
India and an Air Force fly-by.
26th January 1950 is one of the most important days
in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution
of India came into force and India became a truly
sovereign state. In this day India became a totally
republican unit. The country finally realized the
dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom
fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives
for the Independence of their country. So, the 26th
of January was decreed a national holiday and has
been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day
of India, ever since. |
